I was born in Weiden, Bavaria, Germany and came to Ft. Benning in 1958 - after I graduated high school in Germany, but I spoke NO English! I was adopted by my step father who was in the military. I finished high school here in 2 years and graduated with all of you!!
Returned "home" in 1999 with my wife (I had no pleasant memories of Germany since I was there during WW II and during the reconstruction). Now Germany is wonderful, but expensive. I reconnected with my best friends I had there. They lived in the same towns and was a WONDERFUL trip.
After high school, with my $10, I traveled to CA and lived with an old German friend and played what was then pro soccer for the Los Angeles blue and white German soccer team. I married in 1963 and had 3 boys and they have 4 boys (my grandchildren). My ex-wife and I were divorced in 1975. I remarried (Linda) in 1987 and we are still in love and very happy!
Worked for Lockheed since 1963 and retired in 1995 and have been enjoying life with my wife in GA ever since. In 1990 Lockheed relocated some of us from the Burbank, CA plant to Marietta, GA plant. My wife and I love GA and have lived in the same house in West Cobb, Marietta since 1990. Guess we will stay!!
We travel to CA every other year to see my children and grandchildren. While retired I have worked some part time jobs including for the Atlanta Braves at the new Turner Field. We also were volunteers for the 1996 Olympics. I was personal driver and attache for the Austrian official who was responsible for organizing the Fencing venues in the last 5 Olympics. My wife was an "on-call" driver. Again, we had so much fun. Also, volunteered for the (at that time) Bellsouth Classic Golf Tournament for 3 years and have some good souvenirs. My health has held up, but my wife has Rheumatoid Disease . So, we travel when we can and have a trip planned in December on the Norwegian Cruise Line "not yet sailing" ship The Epic.
Our favorite pasttime is playing in duplicate bridge tournaments across the nation and at our local club. I have enough points to be a Life Master, but I need 15 more Gold points! Playing in tournaments has given us the opportunity to do a lot of travelling and competing at a "sport" which we love. And we don't get hurt - as our physical competition skills have diminished! It also keeps us mentally sharp!
Life is good and we are well prepared for retirement and I guess that is all we can ask for!
