Mrs. Carol Griffis, 72, of Columbus, GA passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Grant Parker officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am, one hour before the service, at the church.

Mrs. Griffis was born December 7, 1949 in, Yokohama, Japan, daughter of the late Houston Wyatt Blackledge and Anneliese Franz Blackledge.  She retired after 39 years with the Civil Service.  Mrs. Griffis enjoyed baking, gardening and traveling, as well as, volunteering at Callaway Gardens.  She taught Sunday school from the time she was 17 until she turned 67 and was a faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bill Griffis of Columbus, GA; two sons, Sean Griffis and wife Kaylene of Columbus, GA and Jamie Griffis and wife Terri of Hamilton, GA; a sister, Wynell King of Columbus, GA; a brother, Robert Blackledge of Malabar, FL; grandchildren, Annalee Griffis, Jesse Van Patten (Jackie), Kacy Van Patten, Mallory Van Patten and Elye Van Patten; a great-grandson, Kacy Van Patten, Jr.; several other extended family and friends.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to PAWS at pawshumane.org or Epworth United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 430, Phenix City, AL 36868.

Sandra Carwile (D'Zamko) (1967)

I have know Caroline since we were in Junior High School in Fort Richardson, Alaska, and I am so saddened at the news of her passing.  She was a wonderful person and I have many wonderful memories.  My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.

So sorry to learn of Carol's passing. Carol was such a beautiful lady with a sweet, sweet spirit. God bless Bill and family. Keeping you in my prayers.

Roy Cook (1968)

sure sorry to hear of Carol's passing. She was such a sweet person. She tapped me for the National Honor Society at Baker. I still have that picture and will treasure it always.

Shirley Boyer (Cutler) (1967)

Carolyn was one of the most beautiful ladies at Baker.  I admired her grately, she was always so precious and sweet.  My condolences to Bill and the family.
