Carl Bridges - Class Of 1973

Mr. Carl Ervin Bridges passed away quietly Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Alabama. He was a native of Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late Nellie Melson Bridges and George Bridges.

A proud 1973 graduate of Baker High School, Carl was active as a member of the band, ROTC, Drill Team, and the Junior Achievement program.

Mr. Bridges was baptized at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia. Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy, traveling extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America as a Merchant Seaman. After his tenure in the Navy, he was honorably discharged and became a resident of Houston, TX. and enrolled at Texas Southern University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. While attending Texas Southern, he was active with the African American Student Achievement Organization, Psychology Club and became a member of St. John AME Church. He later moved to Southfield, MI where he resided for 13 years and eventually relocated back to Columbus, Georgia. For the past three years he was a resident at “A Loving Touch”- Home for Veterans in Smiths Station, AL. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Bridges and Loretta Bridges; also one niece, Marcie Bridges.

He leaves to cherish his memories; one sister, Carolyn Bridges Graves; his brother George Bridges(Carolyn); two nieces, Aubrey Bridges, Camille Bridges; two great-nephews, Zachary Bridges, Xzavier Bridges; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Bridges will be held Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. under the pavilion at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery following a visitation Sunday beginning at 2 PM and ending at 4 PM at the funeral home.
