Rick Popple (1971)

I met Craig at Eddy Jr High. My history teacher at the time introduced Craig to us as our new Student Teacher. Craig was my age--he was such a brilliant student they made him a teacher's assistant in his same grade. And as we all know, he was a gifted athlete. Smart, good looking, and an exceptional athlete. He had it all--he had every reason to, you know, have an attitude. Not Craig, he had no ego at all, always treated everyone as an equal, with respect. Craig got a big time football scholarship to play football for the University of Georgia. I went in the Army. Three years later I was discharged from the Army. I attended the Summer Quarter at Columbus College before going to UGA in the Fall. The first day I found Craig sitting in the lunch room studying. As always, he greeted me like I was a good friend. That Summer I ate lunch and studied with Craig whenever I could. There was always a evenness about him that I liked. I never saw Craig again after that Summer. Strangely, I've been looking for him to turn up on this web site--but never under these circumstances. I don't know if Craig's parents are alive --if you are, you got it right raising that boy. My condolences to Craig's family. Rick Popple

I met Craig while at Benning Hills Elementary and knew him at Eddy Jr. High and at Baker. Craig was always friendly, personable, very smart and a great athlete. I attempted to play football at Eddy and was always on the second or third string that lined up against the likes of Brian Hartford, Mike Cotner and Craig Hrncir. I still have a ringing in my ears from being hit by those guys. My condolences to Craig’s family, you will be missed my friend. Ray Gunn

My first memory of Craig was freshman year of Baker, 1968. He was handsome and really 'stood out' on the football field. I never was 'into' the sports activities because I was too busy in the musicals and plays part of drama. I remember him as being a nice, well-mannered guy who seemed to get along with everyone. He was in a couple of my classes but I dont remember which ones. I also knew his sister Vickey as she was near the age of my closest friend, Linda Mixon. Both were very nice people to know. I never knew any of the things Craig accomplished in life because everyone loses touch over the years but I am proud that he served for our countrys rights for freedom!! I have been working for 33 yrs at Ft Benning, most of it within Martin Army Hospital and have first hand knowledge of how the military life and wars affect our soldiers and my sympathy always lies with them for the after-effects that haunt them the rest of their lives. I for one, will always be a big supporter for our American freedom and all that our soldiers have sacrificed for it and for all of us!! and no matter how the country laws change, I firmly believe in the national anthem and for which it stands and for God as our pilot in all things!! Thank you, Craig, for all that you accomplished in your lifetime and God has blessed all of us for having known you for a short time.

I too remember Craig as an easy-going kinda guy. He never seemed to get riled up about anything. And what a football player!!...One memory I have of Craig is that we had a math class together (Algebra)..I wasn't doing so well and was just about to the point of saying the heck with the whole thing and just quit and change my class. Craig told me he heard I was thinking about getting out of Algebra and when I told him I was he said..Come on man, if I can do this stuff anybody can"...lol....Craig probably forgot more about Algebra than I could ever learn. But I stuck with it and finally made it thru that class. I wished he would have been in some other of my classes.
God Bless You Craig Hrncir and my thoughts and prayers go out to your family

All the Way

Everything he did,
He did it all the way.
Playing ball or taking tests,
Or working day by day.

He wanted things done right,
Or maybe not at all.
He sought to know the Grace of God,
And hear the Gospel Call.

When Jesus won his heart,
He gave it all the way.
Intense in love , intense in life,
He served Christ every day.

He worked hard in his church,
And believed in family.
He understood and showed by deeds,
The truth that makes men free.

“Jesus is my Savior,
I know that I am ready”
We heard him say before he went,
So calm and sure and steady.

I ONLY KNEW CRAIG BRIEFLY. I WAS NEVER HIS TEACHER. BUT I REMEMBER HIM AS THIS VERY FRIENDLY, MUSCULAR, AND ATHLETIC YOUNG MAN WHO EXCELLED IN FOOTBALL, AND PROBABLY OTHER SPORTS. HOWEVER, I REMEMBER HIS LOVELY SISTER VICKY WHO WAS CONSTANTLY BRAGGING ON HER BIG BROTHER, WHOM SHE ADMIRED AND LOVED. I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. CRAIG LEFT YOU TOO SOON, BUT WE KNOW WHERE HE IS, AND HE'S WAITING FOR YOU. IN CHRIST, COACH LINER

I am glad he found the Lord. We were once engaged to be married. Bless his family. I remember taking him to church when I was 16 years old. Thank you Lord for saving him.

Even though I was only a freshman at BHS at the time, my goal was to be a BHS cheerleader sooner or later, so I hung out for the football practices and watched the people practice football, cheerleading or track.
Craig was one heck of a football player for BHS well known and well liked. I remember him as being the one that stuck out along with David Zimmerman in football practice to pouring out their ALL to make the team a tuff playing fighting machine......TOGETHER! This is what it was all about with the Baker Lions sticking together. Making an example of oneself to others. Craig did just that and was well liked for going the extra mile to give his best. My thoughts & prayers are extended to his family that they can be assured if they are united with the Lord Jesus Christ, as he was, then they will see him again oneday soon. God bless you and keep the faith.
BHS friend;
Gwen Fowler-Setayesh
