Dave and I were best friends until he passed away.  He was my best man, and I was his best man. Mary and I are still close friends of his widow, Susan. We met at Baker when we were both 16 years old.  Dave's family lived on Edgewood.  His Dad was Dr. J. M. Wilson, who was President and CEO of Wilson Mfg. Co. of Brown Avenue.  I called Mrs. Wilson "Mom", and Dave called my mother "Mom."  They were like a second family.

We double-dated a lot. Some of Dave's early friends called him "Hick."  I was glad when that died out.  Dave got his degree in education and we attended U. of Ga. off-campus MPA graduate classes together.  He taught at Cherokee County High School, another school in the Miami area that I can't recall, and at Golden State High in Bakersfield California.  The last decade of his life we worked on the same floor in the same building, the Russell Building in Atlanta, me with the National Archives/GSA and him with GSA as the Regional Labor Relations Officer.

We fished together, worked on our cars, and had a great time for 33 years. You'd better be waiting for me when I get there, buddy.

Bob
