Kathleen Malone (Crouch) (1972)

Mrs. Reid was a real lady. When forced busing began and Baker had the perfect mix of students, we had to have black teachers brought in. I'll never forget Effie Jo Reid telling a group of us how scared she was to come to a school with white students. This was said while we were having a class dinner at Pizza Hut! Mrs. Reid's son drove her there.

I can remember playing Friday morning trivia in Mrs. Reid's social studies (?) class. She single handedly got me to read the newspaper so that I would be up to date on current events! The whole class had fun competing on those Friday mornings!

So sorry to hear of Ms. Reid's passing.  She was one of the few teachers who made an impression on me.  She was  the only teacher  that I recall who encouraged independant thought.  She taught me to question.  She taught me to read with an internal editor.  I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to thank her for that.  It took thirty years to appreciate that.  My Sincere condolences to her family.  She was a great lady.

Mrs. Reid was one the best.  She taught at Spencer in the 60's matter fact she taught my mother. And she started reading the newspaper more.
