I first met Manford back in 1994 when I was the President of National Little League at Rigdon Park. I was new to the administrative end of little league baseball and him and Nan, his wife, took me under there wing and showed me some of the ins and outs of it. If I ever had a question I knew I could go to him and if he didn't know the answer he would find one for me. He was associated with Southern Little League which was located over off of 29th street and in one of the poorer sections of town, but those kids never did without anything that was necessary to play the game. I had a tremendous amount of respect for Manford, he was a good person who did a lot for the children of Columbus with his association with Little League baseball. He will be missed by many.

I met Mr. Metcalf last year when he was crusading to save Baker and make it a VA hospital (clinic). He was so dedicated in his efforts. Just a week before his passing, he gave me a petition to get names for saving BHS. What a gracious and kind man he was. For those that may not know; Mr. Metcalf was the artist for the Arrowhead, Baker's annual. He will be missed.
