Miss Owens "caused" me to get my only two licks from Mr. Boyles' paddle. She caught me steathily listening to my transistor radio earphone in study hall. I had the cord run up my sleeve and was holding it to my ear with my hand over it. She confiscated it and I had to go to Mr. Boyles to retrieve it. Two licks, or ten hours after school. But I had to ask to have the licks, since I lived over three miles from the school.
I was president of the library club in 67 and we had a convention at Lake Arrowhead. She drove me home and asked my parents how was my driving. They told her it was good. I got to drive her 59 chevy up to the convention. For a 17 year old that was a dream car and I enjoyed driving it. My first impression of her wasnt a good one but when I got to know her I really liked her. RIP Miss Owens. Thanks for the memories.

By the way, did every class refer to her as the "gray ghost" (due to her pale complexion)?Charles Alford (1967)
