June 21, 2010 Luncheon

Dear Lions and Lioness:

We had a great time yesterday.  It just gets better and better.  First let me THANK the following people for making it a success.  Sandye Johnson Nazario '64, Peggy Johnson Keller '53, Pat Hodge Evans '56, James and Linda Massey '60 & 64, Jane Stewart Brown '60, John Crimmel '70, Roy Cook, '68, Peggy Best Martin '61, Cindy Fucci '65, Cynthia Kirkland Dunn '64 for the table registration.  Rhonda Johnson Shaefer '63 for the tip bucket in which she collected $164.00 plus what was left on the tables, Roy Cook again, for the speaker system and Terry Nunnally for the photos which she will post on the Baker High web site  www.bakerlionspride.com.   All of these folks working together made the event a success.

We had 103 Baker folks in attendance.  Of the 103 folks, 39 were first timers and several from the class of 1965 in which this is the first time that, many of them have seen each other since graduation.  After the luncheon usually about 4 to 7 will stay for a little while longer.  This time I counted 20 folks stayed to almost 4:00 PM.  We were table hopping where we all eventually wound up in one table.  I was so happy to meet all of you new ones especially from the class of 1945, Jack Gallops, William Weekly and Mrs Weekly, Joe Weekley '52, and folks from the  1970's that were there for the first time.

On Baker High Bldg., Mr Jere Richardson informed me that Reaves Wrecking Co. was awarded the contract to tear the school down also as it was also reported in the L-E.  Also that Daniel Diaz, a Columbus native, and retired writer and producer for Papillon Productions in Hollywood, CA, wishes to buy the property for $600,000.00, renovate it and use it as a television and film studio and providing employment for as many as 3,000 jobs.  This is very uplifting news for those of us that love that school.  There is still hope for the Baker building.

Thanks to all that keep me informed as to any happenings with the Baker folks.  A little later, Barbara Gilbert Jordan '64, informed me that one of our teachers, Mr. Robert Linbendorfer, that in addition to been a teacher is also a song writer.  Isn't that amazing.  You all take care.
