BAKER QUARTERLY LUNCHEON MARCH 23, 2015 RECAP

Dear Lion & Lioness:

Another super turn out.  We had 190 present.  The classes ranged from 1945 to 1980.  There were many first timers as usual.  If we were to ever have all of the folks that have attended for the first time we would have to set tables outside the Golden Corral.  The Golden Corral will seat 500 folks.  It is amazing that some Baker Lions still do not know that we have a Baker High quarterly luncheon especially those that are living here in Columbus or in the vicinity.  Several drove from long distances. What a treat.  Our volunteers did an awesome job as usual.  We collected almost three hundred dollars for the waitresses that do such a good job.  This is the 8th year at the Golden Corral and many thanks to John, the manager, for treating us like royalty.  John also pointed out that he knows of no other school that does what we do year after year.  We had cheerleaders from 1952 to 1964 leading cheers with their pom poms.  Thanks to Gwenette (Johnson) Garner ’64 for providing the poms poms and being the inspiration of the Baker High School Lion spirit. Needless to say Coach Ball was so honored to have all  wish him a happy birthday that he choked up.  He had members of his 1954 first basketball championship present in John Drew, Amos Ivey and Foster Watkins and another from the 1956 championship Louis Casey.  Joey Lawski, AKA “Joseph The Magician” BHS 1967 was splendid as usual by doing his table magic and especially when Jimmy Bolles stepped up to be the magicians helper.  I just never knew that Jimmy wore a bra.

Next luncheon will be on Monday, June 15, 2015.  We are going to celebrate another teachers birthday, Mr. Paul Mezick, (DCT Teacher).  We are hoping that all that had him for DCT will come and celebrate with him.  He will be celebrating his 90 TH birthday and he can still dance as he showed at two reunions last October.  We hope that all former cheerleaders be present again in leading us in a cheer.  We will probably have a third act but do not know at this time.  Looking forward to our next luncheon and may the good LORD bless us all.  Please click on the link below to see video of our luncheon and also you may go to the website, www.bakerlionspride.com and click on Lunch w/Lions Photos to see the pictures from the luncheon.  If I left someone out or misspelled please let me know.
