David A.Purser's name can been seen on Panel 45E, line 4, of the Vietnam Memorial. Died as a result of ground fire on March 16, 1968 in Quang Nam, South Viet Nam. We spent our summer after graduation working at the Ft. Benning Gas Station. He was eager to become a Marine. I'm saddened that he didn't get to experience the benefits of his sacrifice as we did. David was a good buddy. I was an honorary pallbearer. He is buried at the cemetary on Ft Benning. He was killed on his second tour in Nam.

I was David's ROTC sponsor. He was a great guy - it broke my heart when I heard the news. I think about him most everytime I hear about another soldier losing his life. Love to you, David.

I knew David - he was one year ahead of me.  I was friends with his younger brother.  We all lived out at Ft. Benning on Main Post together.  He lived right down the street from me.  He is actually the only person that I knew really well that died in Viet Nam.  I went to Washington D.C. once & found his name on the Viet Nam Wall.  I'll always remember him as the one that lost his life much too soon.  The Viet Nam war was a senseless war that should have never have happened & so many of our young men that went to Baker never had a chance in life because of that useless war.
