Billy Smith was an exceptional soldier. I knew him and his family as we attended school together in Augsburg, Germany 1959-1962 and attended BHS together. Billy, David Hogan, Donald "Skeeter" Johnston and I were in Vietnam together. Billy, David, and Skeeter were all killed in action within a few months of each other. Billy was a "tunnel rat" , duty that required great skill and courage. He was killed in action during face to face combat- I wish I could of had his back, I know he always had mine. I have overcome my hate of his killer, still there are days when its difficult.

Billy Smith was a dear friend, exceptional baseball player, and a patriot. He is missed to this day.

I went to school with Billy (Faith School, Ft Benning and Baker High School).  We both lived in the Baker Village and Benning Park neighborhood.  He was a great friend.  I still remember him, alway smiling.  You where a great friend.  My buddy  Billy.
