Wanda Olene Brown (Bixler)
June 12, 1943 - January 2, 2022
Canton, Georgia

Wanda Olene Bixler, 78, was born June 12, 1943 in Metter, Georgia to William O. and Sybil E. Brown. She died at her home in Canton, Georgia on January 2, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She grew up in a military family and in her youth lived in several states as well as overseas in Austria. Following high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Columbus College. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Bixler, on April 6, 1963 in a military wedding ceremony in Columbus, Georgia.

She was the mother of three children: one daughter and two sons. Over the next 30 years the family lived in various locations in the U.S. and overseas while Ray served in the U.S. Army. Wanda was an honor graduate of Columbus College and Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, where she majored in education. She taught various grades in elementary and middle school.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years; by her daughter, Dawn Richerson, and sons and daughters in law Steve (Peggy) Bixler, and Mark (Jennifer) Bixler; by six grandchildren; by one sister, Brenda Neal; and by nephews and a niece.

Wanda was a loving and beloved mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life. She showed us how to let love guide our path through life. She created a warm and loving home where she taught, nurtured and unconditionally loved her children and husband. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and word games.

She was an ardent cross-stitcher for many years and enjoyed teaching others the skill. She especially loved quilting. Over the years she designed and created numerous quilts, most of which she gave to others. She was an active participant and leader in local churches and chapels wherever the family was living.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wanda Bixler to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Poole Funeral Home, Woodstock, GA. Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery.
