Lafayette was a teammate of mine on the basketball team. He was a fun guy to be around and even though he was the star of our team, he never got the big head about it. It was a shock to hear of his passing on this web site and I will always remember his fellowship and leadership on the basketball court. RIP Paul Gross BSH Class of '71
I remember seeing this young kid play ball on the basketball court during P.E. He was a freshman. I was manager of the basketball team and I thought such a big kid and with talent he needs to play for varsity. It wasn't long Coach Gresham picked him out of the croud as a future star. Coach Gresham worked with Lafayette and guided him to "run that base line". Soon he was playing on Varsity and became a star player. He had an open heart to be taught and loved the game. Coach Gresham, a good coach, Lafayett a great player.
Lafayette was always a nice guy on the court and off the court. He always had a warm smile to all. I hoped he had a chance to fourfill those inner dreams he so fondly spoke over during school. A basketball "star" by far, he was. God bless his family always!
Other than his basketball prowess, I didn't get to know Lafayette as well as some other students did. But, being from the same graduating class as he; I got the privilege to speak to him, from time to time, in the hallways of Baker. He was always friendly to me and I'm sorry to hear of his passing, but we all have our times at hand. I just pray that he lived the life that he always looked for after graduation. I'll never forget him - and may God Bless him and his loved ones...
