Val Whatley died in the metro Atlanta area on 11/03/05. Cause of death was a heart attack. He is buried in Cuthbert, Randolph Co., GA. Val played football and he wrestled.
Val was such a friend. I remember that when my mother was still living in Columbus he always came by to see her and brought her nice bottle of wine and a smile. Missing you, Val.
I last saw Val alive in the early 80's and then lost track of him. My job took me to Cuthbert for a few years and I looked Val up. He's now resting in the rich, warm earth of southwest Georgia, in a family plot with his mom, dad and two half-brothers. Val was one of the "Clover Lane" boys, including Mike Dunagan, Jerry Moore, and Freddie Hargrove, I hung out with in high school and for a time afterward until we all went our separate ways. We had good times. Rest easy Val.
