Norman Joshua Cobb, 79, passed away Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017 surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2017 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Rita, children Elizabeth Brady (Kevin); Andrew Cobb; Peter Cobb (Erin); and five grandchildren. Two sisters also survive him: Jo Cannon and Carolyn Ballard (Bill). 

Norman was born in Donalsonville, Georgia on January 1, 1938. He graduated from Baker High School in 1955 where he was an outstanding athlete especially in football (#22 in the BHS Football photo)  and pole vaulting.

Norman served in the Marine Corp Reserve from 1958 – 1960 and in the US Army Security Agency from 1960 – 1963. He received his BA from Western State Colorado University in 1964 and his MA from Indiana University in 1966.

Norman had a varied career which included teaching at the college level and employment in both federal and state governments. He retired from Kentucky state government in 1995. Condolences may be offered at www.shcolumbus.com
