William Jefferson "Buck" Oliver, III, 69 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Columbus Specialty Hospital. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 P.M. EST Friday, November 6, 2015 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Tom Person officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Friday prior to the service. Mr. Oliver was born October 30, 1946; son of the late William Jefferson Oliver, Jr. and Mary Julia Greenwell Oliver. He attended Baker High School and served three years in the U.S. Navy then later retired from GNB and Exide Batteries with more than 25 years of service. He became an avid square dancer and served one term as president of the local Fountain City Twirlers; a member of "NARFE" National Active and Retired Federal Employees. He became very active; president of Local Chapter 219, designed and maintained a website for Georgia NARFE for 10 years. He was Georgia State NARFE photographer, historian and webmaster; was named 2005 NARFE member of the year; also had a prominent part of publishing a newsletter for Local Chapter 219 and mailing to members. Co-Founder of Sixteen Wheelers; a wheelchair square dance club, who for 10 years were located and performed in Columbus, GA. The only wheelchair club in the state of Georgia. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Wayne Oliver. Survivors include his wife Carolyn Caldwell Oliver of Phenix City, AL, four nephews, Raymond Ford of Columbus, GA, Roger Ford of Washington D.C., Richard Ford of Birmingham, AL and Nicholas Oliver of Columbus, GA.
