I was notified of Ellen's passing today via email & was deeply saddened. I have thought about her many many times through the years. Always remember her playing her giutar and singing 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' just before she left Georgia for Indiana and I left for Colorado. I have never heard that song since and not smiled  thinking of Ellen and fun times. I also am remembering a gathering at her house & there were wonderful paintings of her and I think a sister in the living room. Sweet memories.

Ellen and I took three classes together our senior year.  She was so bright and witty... and full of fun.  We were fast friends and I will miss her spirit.  After graduation I never knew where she went to college or how her life was progressing.  I felt confident wherever she went or whatever she was involved in Ellen, would be a plus on so many levels.  Ellen you are missed by me and others in our class.

(This is from Jan Davis Acuff, Tom is my husband, who also loved her and her whole family.)  I should have posted this memorial years ago--still can't believe she is gone.  Such a huge part of my life now gone.  Also have vivid memories of her singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane," doing James Brown "I Feel Good" dance and song, plus about everything I remember being happy about from 1966 till she was gone.  Marvyn Gaye and Tammy Terrell I can't even listen to anymore, or Dionne Warwick, and I could go on and on.  Only one close friend like that for me in this lifetime.  She was the best.  We were good friends in Germany, and came back from overseas at exactly the same time.  She lived two blocks from me.  Roommates at Auburn, pregnant at the same time, holidays together, birthdays at the beach, so many excursions just the two of us.  Really special being an army brat to share so many memories from so long ago.  I do think we laughed enough for 100 lifetimes, and for that I will always be thankful.
