John Michael Fitzgerald

Columbus, GA- John Michael Fitzgerald, 58, Columbus, GA died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Grace Care Center of Cypress in Houston, TX. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Parkhill Cemetery with Father Brian officiating.
John (Jackie) "trainman" Fitzgerald was born February 13, 1955 in Germany, son of the late Staff Sergeant John Joseph Fitzgerald and Charlotte Kammer Fitzgerald. Survivors include two sisters Elizabeth Posey of Ladonia, AL and Bonita Smith of Roan Moutain, TN; two brothers Peter Fitzgerald and wife Tracie Fitzgerald of Columbus, GA and Daniel Fitzgerald of Columbus, GA; best friend Sheila Fitzgerald of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Helen Goss and brother-in-law Clarence Smith.
John graduated from Baker High School in 1972. He moved to Houston, TX in 1992. He was in the Marine Corps, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Houston Train Club, was involved in the BNSF, was a volunteer for the train museum and was a member of the Funeral Directors Association. He was also an avid UGA and Atlanta Braves fan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1953 Torch Hill Road, Columbus, GA 31903.
