Alma “Carol” Young ,age 69, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, in Thomaston, Georgia.

A Celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. Pastor Paul Thomas will be officiating with Reverend Patrick Reeves leading the music. A visitation time for family and friends will follow immediately after the service.

Carol was born at Fort Benning, Georgia, on September 8, 1953 to the late Sgt. Clarence Elvin Young, Sr. and Doris Jeanette DeBardelaben. Carol lived in Columbus for many years but as a daughter of a soldier, she traveled and lived in Mainz, Germany, Nacogdoches, Houston and Kileen, Texas, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Valdosta, Georgia. The delight and joy of her heart was knowing Jesus Christ as her Savior and she shared her joy with many others.

Carol graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia in 1971. She soon married and had two daughters, Amy Melissa and Holly Christine. Carol loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and especially making jewelry of which she started her own business.

Survivors include her daughters Amy Melissa Harrell of Columbus, Georgia and Holly Boulette of Kentucky. Carol has three grandchildren, Jason Christopher Harrell, Stephanie Harrell, and Gracie Boulette. Carol has three brothers, Clarence Elvin & Jeanette A. Young (Columbus), James David Young (Prairie Village, Kansas), and Matthew Terrell & Dawanna Collins (Waverly Hall), and a sister, Jo Rita & Rolando J. Canelón (Lake Park, Georgia).

Carol loved all of her many nieces and nephews: Heather, April, Travis Young, Jennifer, Shannon, Joseph, Daniel Young, Rolando & Jose Canelon, and Tabetha, Terri, and Matthew Collins,Jr.

I only read about Carol's passing today, 8/12/23.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.  I did not know her that well in high school but got to know her better as Facebook friends.  I am so very sorry to hear of her passing.  Rest in peace, Carol...
