I always enjoyed being around Mike. We used to go to Staley's Fish Market on 6th Avenue, buy up some raw shrimp, boil them up and watch Alabama football. He was a hoot.

When we were 15 Mike and I played on the same baseball team at the boys club. It was a very good team, with the exception of myself it was loaded with All Stars. Mike was the best of them all. Every time Mike went up to bat he expected (and so did everyone else) to hit a home run. And he hit a bunch of them that year. We didn’t loose a regular season game and we made it to the Finals.

During the Finals I was playing right field. Late in the game a ball was hit to me and I was day dreaming and didn’t see it until it was too late. I tried to run the ball down but it was over my head and it ticked off the top of my glove for an error. The coach was so mad at me he took me out of the game. Lucky for me, Mike got up the next inning and hit a game winning home run. My error was forgotten. I remember that game well because it was the last baseball game I ever played. Thanks, Mike. I was so saddened to have heard of Mike's passing / a tremendous guy with a love and passion for sports ! Mike and I grew up together playing baseball and football. Families closely connected. I will never, ever forget fishing the backwaters with Mike and his Family. I miss you Mike and I am so glad we saw each each other here in Florida and back in Columbus before his passing. To his Mom, Nell , I love you. I was saddened to hear of Mike's Dad, Ralph, passing as well. May God grant eternal love, peace and understanding thru his passing .....
