Obituary

Howard D. "Donnie" Murphy, 76, of Salem, Alabama passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. His family will visit with friends after the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be Monday, November 28, 2016 in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia with military honors.

Donnie was born on March 28, 1940 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Ruth Blakeley Murphy and James Donald Murphy. He worked for a short period of time in the cabinet shop before joining the U.S. Army, where he faithfully served his country.

Donnie Murphy was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather with a great sense of humor. He was an honorable patriot that was proud of his country and proud of his service to his country. Donnie Murphy will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Helen C. Murphy; daughters: Mandi Murphy Richardson, Annah Murphy St. John and her husband Travis, and Laura Wise Pike; son, Charles "Chuck" Wise; grandchildren: Christopher Wise Rusty Kirkland, Rachael Burnett, Heather Wise, Trinity Pike, Taylor Osborn, Alana Osborn, Samantha Raybon, Gage Hill, Jesse Richardson, Zack Dougherty; great grandchildren: Korah Pike, Kadence Pike, Kaylynne McCart, Joah Richardson, Mckenzi Dougherty, Aidan Kirkland; cousins: Mike and Donna Murphy & Family, Steve and Mary Murphy & Family, and Randy McEwen & Family; special family friends, Heather Brooks, Brandon Rusk, Samuel Wyman, Ethan Wyman, Rebecca Hoffman, Jimmy Carroll, Sharon and Ronald Freeman.
