Patty lived on the corner of Beatrice and Boardmoor, just down the street from us. She was older than me but when I did speak to her she was always happy. She had two younger brother, one I had a crush on. It really bothered me to know she died from an automobile accident in Columbus. Can't remember when though.
Patti died in an automobile accident the summer of 1986. We were best friends during high school and even afterwards. We were even roommates for several years. I was actually supposed to go with Patti the evening she had the accident but decided not to go. Guess the Lord was watching over me then. Patti was always upbeat, uplifting and confident. She had big plans for her future and was always talking about what she was going to do. We shared many good times and bad. I often wonder what happened to her daughter, Autumn Kathleen. I truly miss Patti.
I will never forget Patti, one of my very best friends in high school and after high school. She was my maid of honor, when I was married at Fort Benning, GA in June 1979. She visited me a couple times in Fort Bragg, NC and again, after having our daughter in 1984, in Charlottesville, VA. I would visit her and her daughter in Columbus too, and often wondered where the rest of Patti's family was. It was never a dull moment with Patti, and we had so many laughs together. I will never forget the dreary, sad day my parents and friends called me from Columbus to tell me about the tragic car accident which took Patti & her boyfriend's lives. I was just moving again to West Point, NY when that dreadful call came. I would be coming to Columbus the following week to visit my family and friends, which would include Patti. I'm not sure a day goes by that I don't think of her! May she rest in Peace. Miss you & love ya Patti! I will always cherish the memories! Cathy (Willis) Kerrigan '72
