William Jesse "W. J. " Orr - Class Of 1959

William J. Orr December 26, 1941 - November 3, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — William J. "W.J." Orr, 66, of Columbus, GA died at his residence, Monday, November 3, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2008 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the funeral home.

Mr. Orr was born December 26, 1941, son of Mary Lois Golden Orr and the late William Howard Orr. He was a 1959 graduate of Baker High School where he played football, and later became a historian. Mr. Orr received his BS in Business Administration from Auburn in 1963 and his MBA from Georgia State in 1969. We will remember him as a giving man who embraced life to its fullest. His generosity was highlighted by his contagious personality. He was at home on the dance floor or with a fishing pole in his hands.

Mr. Orr was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Alice Faye Pait. Survivors include his mother, Mary Lois Golden Orr of Columbus, GA; two daughters, Dr. Melody King and her husband, Steven of Clarksville, TN and Melissa Roberson and her husband, Steven of Pampa, TX; five siblings, Ronald Orr and his wife, Ruby of Senoia, GA, Kenneth Orr and his wife, Ida of Chattanooga, TN, Melba Taccati and her husband, Lynn of Columbus, GA, Edna Mickschl and her husband, Robert of Columbus, GA and Gwen Jolly and her husband, Mike of Phenix City, AL; six grandchildren, Steven Robinson and his wife, Bethany, Stephanie Robinson, Allyson Roberson, Elizabeth King, Brittani King and Steven King; one great-grandchild, Saige Robinson; numerous friends.

Gwen Orr (Jolly) (1974)

I love my brother and miss him very much. I do know that he is in Heaven now and I will see him again. Praise God! I'm Gwen Orr Jolly, his youngest sister, class of '74. He was the oldest of six siblings and I am the youngest.

Ken Orr (1968)

A Giant of A Man! His Heart For All Was Enormous. He Lived To Give. My Hero and Best Friend. "He Knew So Much More Than Me." He Was A True Baker High Lion and 'Baker Bum'! W.J. Was 'Solution Focused' and Only Viewed Problems As Something To Solve. He Was A Problem Solver Not Only For Himself, But, To Anyone Who Needed His Help. Now, Heaven Is His Home With Many of His Baker High School Friends and Many Others.
