Christine Floyd (Summers) - Class Of 1956 VIEW PROFILE

SUMMERS, CHRISTINE Chris Summers was born in Blakely, GA, on December 24, 1938, and passed away in her home here in San Diego on May 18, 2010. She met her husband, Bob, while working at a cleaners near Fort Benning, GA. They were married on September 6, 1957, in her hometown of Columbus, GA. They first moved to Akron, OH, while Bob finished up college. In April 1960, they moved to San Diego and have called it home ever since. She was a stay-at-home Mom for their two children and their home was the hangout for all of the neighborhood children. Her southern hospitality drew everyone to her. She later worked for Dr. John Westwood greeting his patients with her warm smile and friendly demeanor for 24 years. After her retirement in 2003, Chris and Bob started making road trips across the United States. In fact, they did this four times in the last six years. She enjoyed visiting friends and relatives along the way, but what she enjoyed most was spending the "road" time with her husband, life partner, and friend. Chris enjoyed her retirement, spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing dominoes, Uno, Yahtzee or Five Crowns, doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles and of course, going to Barona Casino. She was the ultimate competitor and has taught her grandchildren that competitive spirit. In addition to loving her family and friends, she was a devout Chargers fan. She and Bob have had season tickets since the Chargers arrived in San Diego in 1961; they even attended the Chargers only appearance in the Super Bowl in 1995. She was ever hopeful that they would win a Super Bowl, but her season was successful if the Chargers beat the Raiders in both games of a season. There is a quote that says, "you have achieved success if you have lived well, laughed often and loved much". Chris did just that. She will live on in our hearts and minds, and we will smile and cry about her everyday influence on us. We will miss her words of encouragement but most of all her joyful laugh and warm smile. Chris is survived by her husband, Bob, (married for Fifty-Onederful years) and her children, Suzanne Ryan and Kenny Summers, and daughter-in-law, Erin. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart, Meaghan and Cullan Ryan, and Zeke Summers. She will also be dearly missed by her brothers, James (Susan) Floyd and Walter Floyd; in-laws, Jackie and George Stoudt, Lew and Verna Leithner, Lo'e and Pete DeLeon, Paul and Barbara Leithner, Dick and Lynn Leithner, and Chuck and Barbara Leithner plus many nieces and nephews. We know that Chris has joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven. A Celebration of Chris' life will be held on June 3, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Church, 10217 Buena Vista Avenue, Suite C, Santee, CA. Meaghan has asked that everyone wear something red as that was her Granny's favorite color. Her time with us was cut short by her battle with cancer. Chris, Mom, Granny: We miss you so much. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to San Diego Hospice in Chris' name.
