Midland, GA- O. Earle "Buddy" Denson, 75, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Luke United Methodist Church Ministry Center with Rev. Paul Thomas, Rev. Watson McKemie, Mr. Mitch Watts officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church Ministry Center according to McMullen Funeral Home ,3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Denson was born on June 13, 1938 in Columbus, GA, to the late Mondez Ellerbee Denson and Hubert E. Denson. He was a graduate of the 1956 class of Baker High School. He attended Emory at Oxford and earned a BS degree from Auburn University in 1963. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Denson founded Denson Construction Co. in 1970. He was a member of the Columbus Bank and Trust Company Board of Advisors, member of Green Island Country Club, a former member of the Association of General Contractors, Home Builders of Columbus, the Columbus Jaycees, The Exchange Club of Columbus, and a member of Midland Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church.
Mr. Denson was very active with the Northern Little League back in the 70's and 80's and coached several teams. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; Phyllis Smith Denson, one son; Philip E. Denson, daughter-in-law; Lori Porter Denson, and three grandchildren; Chandler Reid Denson, age 17, Hallie Lynn Denson, age 12, and Philip (Buddy) Denson, Jr., age 10. He is also survived by two sisters; Nora Denson Burnett (Al) of Columbus, GA and Faye Denson Parkman (Robert) of Opelika, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved pets.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Maxine Wilson, Shelia Walker, Nekeita Lee, and Monica Evan for their faithful and compassionate care for Mr. Denson during his valiant battle with Alzheimers. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mr. Denson.
