In Memory

James Michael "Mike" Lovell - Class Of 1967

James Michael (Mike) Lovell born March15, 1949 passed away Feb 4, 2017 at the age of 67. He lost his battle with a life long illness. He was living in King, North Carolina. Survived By: No one. His beloved wife, Heidi; his beautiful daughter, Caroline; and brother, Pat died about 15 yrs ago - all within a few months of each other.

Mike and I dated our Senior year of high school thru our freshman year of college. We have remained close thru the years and shared many great memories. He graduated from Appalacian State University in Boone, NC and was a football, soccer coach and taught history in a high school in Winston Salem NC until his failing health forced him to retire. Dispite many set backs in his life, he remained positive and upbeat. He donated his body to WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE in hopes that he could somehow have a small part in helping find a cure for the disease that took his life and his daughter's, TYPE 1 DIABETES. That's the kind of person he was, always thinking of others. We share a birthday month and every year we would call each other and he would say "I can't believe we made it this far" and we would both laugh. Sadly, I will not be making that call this year. My heart is so sad, broken. Goodbye my friend, my lion. Thanks for the memories, ROAR ON!!!!!!! -- Marion Crist Kjersten '67

So sorry to read this.  Am surprised I didn't realize he was in NC.  My youngest graduated from a high school in WS and then went on to App State.  Small world.  Thanks, Marion, for the post
