Rick Popple (1971)

Betty Popple (Royal) met her soul mate when she was 17. She married Dan, her husband for life at 18. They had a special relationship that held strong even in death.
Betty started working at the telephone company in Columbus her sophomore year at Baker through the DCT program. She worked there 36 years. Her last 19 years, Betty never had a serious illness - she never missed a day of work!
Around the middle of June 2003, Betty's back and mouth started hurting her. The pain became so unbearable her husband forced her to go the the Emergency Room at the Medical Center in Columbus. After a brief exam, the Emergency Room Doctor asked her if she drank alcohol - which she didn't. He then told her if she didn't drink she probably had Pancreatic Cancer and should see a specialist as quickly as possible. Four painful months later she died of Pancreatic Cancer - six months short of retirement.
She left behind a loving husband, 1 birth daughter, and 2 step sons. Betty treated everyone she came in contact with during her 53 years with respect and kindness. She rarely lost her temper, if ever... I really can't remember a time! Betty always introduce me to her friends as her "Little Brother, Ricky." She was a good sister and a better person. She was always there when I needed her. She has been missed.

I'm so sorry to learn about Betty. I remember her very well from Baker and I also worked at the phone company while I was attending Columbus College. She was a very sweet girl.
