Obituary of Joan T. Patrick

Joan Taylor Patrick, 91 of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away Monday, March 20 2023 in Columbus, Georgia.

Predeceased by her parents William A. and Lillian Juenke Taylor; spouse James W. Patrick; daughter Kay P. Shine and granddaughter Jennifer Moore.

Survived by sons James W. (Jimmy) Patrick Jr. , Lenard Marvin (Bubba) Patrick, Earl S. (Bud) Rainey, and daughters Gloria R. Herrington and Gayle R. Evans. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren

Joan was born in Savannah GA. She lived in Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Florida, but Columbus was her home. She graduated from Baker High School in 1950, then married Earl S. Rainey in 1951. They had three children. In 1953 she started working for Southern Bell. There she met the love of her life, Jim Patrick, her Schatzi. They were married in 1967 and over the next 50 years they showed our family an unrivaled example of two people living for each other. Both retired from the phone company in 1982 and moved to Panama City Beach. They spent the next 20+ years traveling the USA and sharing irreplaceable memories with the entire family and a host of friends. They returned to Phenix City in 2005 to be closer to the kids as Jim’s health was declining. Joan was a loving and caring woman who holds a special place in each of our hearts.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. EDT, Friday, March 24, 2023 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL, with Rev.
