Martha Emily Brooks (Moore) - Class Of 1950

Martha Emily Moore

February 8, 1933 - May 12, 2016
Obituary

Arrangements under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. Martha Emily Brooks Moore was born February 8, 1933 and passed from this life on May 12, 2016. Her devoted husband, Charles L. (Pete), said that Proverbs, Chapter 31: 10-31 best and most perfectly described his wife of 64 years. He was, of course, entirely correct.
Emily met Pete and they married on May 4, 1952. Together, they made a home for their two daughters, Charlee and Wendy. After the girls were more independent, Emily attended and graduated from the Georgia Realtor's Institute. She worked on the Board of Realtors and earned a place in the Million Dollar Club. Her successes in that field were likely the result of her work ethic and her moral code. She helped other families to find homes and security and did it all while building a firm foundation of friendships and trust. She earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
She was a lady. She moved with grace, acted with kindness and decency, and loved with ferocious loyalty. Throughout her life, and especially during her battle with cancer, her quiet courage remained. She did not seek sympathy or pity; rather, she remembered the struggles of those around her.
Though she was accomplished she didn't seek attention for those accomplishments. More than any other role in her life, Emily treasured her role as a Christian, a wife, a mother, and grandmother. Her most treasured moments were when she accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 12, when she married Pete, the birth of her children, and when she joined her beloved First Baptist Church of Columbus. She cherished her work there as Past President of the Young in Heart, the Joy Sunday School Class, and various committees, including the Prayer Ministry.
She will be missed by her family, whom she adored and was adored by; her husband, Pete; her daughters Charlee (Gerald) Hendrix, Wendy (Tommy) Montgomery; grandchildren Mark (Stephanie) Golden, Tom (Bethany) Montgomery, and Lacey (Garrett) Bosely; great- grandchildren Harper Montgomery, and Brody Bosley; sister Charlotte Watson (Jimmy, deceased); and numerous nieces and nephews. She joins her parents, Daniel and Jewel Brooks, and her brother Terrell Brooks in God's heavenly kingdom.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2016 In Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby at 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am, with a graveside interment at Parkhill Cemetery with Pastor Doctor Jimmy Elder of First Baptist Church of Columbus presiding. In lieu of flowers, Emily and her family request donations to First Baptist Church of Columbus
