Ernest "Ernie" Schlagerait - Class Of 1970 VIEW PROFILE

It is with sadness that I report to you our loss of another Lion. Ernest ‘Ernie’ Franz Schlagerait, died Thursday (8 Sep 2011) at his home in Columbus as a result of complications following heart bypass surgery. Born in 1952, Ernie was a graduate of the Baker High School Class of 1970. He was a  US Army veteran, having served abroad in Germany during the early 1970s. Ernie returned to Columbus, working as a bartender at Bobby’s Bar, as an archaeological excavator for the Columbus Museum, and later as a metal fabricator at Pascoe Industries, until his early retirement due to medical disabilities. Ernie is survived by his mother, two sisters, all of the Columbus area, and numerous nieces and nephews.

I'm very sad to hear about Ernie's passing; I have many good memories during our high school years and the years shortly afterwards. He was always such a jovial soul! I pray God's presence be with his spirit and with his family.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Taylor

Ernie and I first met as army brats in Germany when we traded comic books with each other, and again at Baker. - no longer trading comics.  He was always a fun guy and quite a character.  I am sadden by his passing but thankful he is apart of my childhood memories.

Ernie is buried at Ft Mitchell National Cemtery in Section 19, Site 262.  This is the section holding interred cremated remains. When we were still teenagers I worked on the Dave Chase Russell County Historical Society excavation of Ft Mitchell and can remember that Ernie, Jack Tyler and I camped oout at the site one winter weekend.  This was long before any of the surrounding grounds were acquired to be developed as a cemtery.  I met Ernie at Baker, we served together in the Army for a while and he is my dear friend forever, now in memory.  Terry Jackson

I didn't know Ernie, but am sorry to hear about his passing, even though it was a few years ago. Its sad to see a guy from our class pass away so young. Thanks for sharing your remembrances, TJ and Carolyn.
