Richard Ricky Davenport

Ricky passed away this morning, 17 August 2010, after battling cancer for seven years. Please remember Ricky and his family in your thoughts and prayers. 

Funeral arrangements are as follows:  Visitation, Thursday, August 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Striffler Hamby Funeral Home on Macon Rd. Columbus, Ga.  Graveside services at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, Ga.  Friday, August 20th at 10:00 a.m.  The family is accepting flowers. Donations may be made in memory of Richard "Ricky" Davenport to Columbus Hospice, Columbus, Ga.  

Richard G. Davenport May 6, 1952 - August 17, 2010 MAUK, GA— Richard G. Davenport, age 58, resident of Mauk, GA died on August 17,2010 at Columbus Hospice House. Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, on Friday, August 20, 2010, 10 a.m. with Chaplain Gene Ritchie officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Davenport, son of the late Mial Prentiss Davenport and Dorothea Latimer Carter Davenport, was born May 6, 1952 in Columbus. He was a 1970 graduate of Baker High School and a Baptist by faith. Mr. Davenport was a veteran, serving his country honorably in the Air Force Reserves at Warner Robins AFB. He was preceded in death by a niece, Jessica Lynn Burwell. Mr. Davenport is survived by two brothers, Mike and Pat Davenport of Columbus and David and Rose-Ann Davenport of Waverly Hall, GA; two sisters, Shelba Burwell of Byron, GA and Dottie and William Fisher of Zirconia, NC; three aunts, Myrtice Richardson of Bradenton, FL, Dorothy Hall of Coleman, GA, and Alice Devlin of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews.

My condolences to the Davenport family.  I had recently located a picture of Ricky and some Baker friends.  I wanted to send it to him but never did.  I wish I had, he would have enjoyed seeing the picture.

Ricky,

I miss you every day!  I have so many wonderful memories of the last 40 something years.  You were like another brother to me.  We shared a lot of laughs & some tears.  I thank you for trusting me with your care & for allowing me to be there for you, as you were always there for all of us.  Love you!
