Bernard H. Collier September 3, 1952- December 18, 2011 Columbus, GA- Mr. Bernard Harold Collier of Columbus passed Sunday, December 18, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. He was 59 years old and resided 1495 Brewer Avenue. The son of Mrs. Johnnie Brown Collier of Columbus and the late Mr. Samuel L. Collier, Sr., Bernard was a native of Columbus, born September 3, 1952. He was a 1970 graduate of Baker High School, receiving his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Southern Illinois University. He had resided in Huntsville, AL for many years, retiring as an Equal Opportunity Director with the Red Stone Arsenal after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church where served with PICCUM and with the Monday Bible Study. He was also a Lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the American Legion Post 267. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara A. Hixson and Annie Laura Coley. Survivors, other than his mother, include: two sons, Kenneth B. Collier (Nancy) of Huntsville and Kevin H. Collier (Nancy) of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Kimberly J. Collier of Huntsville; six grandchildren, Kamil, Michael, Marcus, Jeremiah, Javel and Julian; two brothers, Samuel L. Collier, Jr. (Mattie) of Huntsville and Michael A. Collier (Mary) of Columbus; four sisters, his twin, Bernice Collins of Huntsville, Agnes Averett (Harold) of Midland, GA, Michelle A. Ashe of Columbus, and Julia Ann Byrd of Atlanta, GA; a special friend, Patricia Caulton; four uncles, two aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services for Mr. Collier will be held Monday, 1:00 pm at the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. J. H. Flakes, Jr., pastor officiating. The interment will be Tuesday, 10:00 am at the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 1 til 4:00 pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 12:30 the day of the service. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.

Kenny Renew (1970)

While working at Redstone Arsenal I had spoken with Mr. Collier many times. I never knew that he was from Baker until now. I am sad to hear of his passing.
