George Scoville - Class Of 1968

George Burton Scoville (1950 - 2016)

Christ follower, beloved husband and devoted father, George Burton Scoville, 66, was called home on October 1, 2016. Aside from being a kind and generous husband, father, brother, and friend, George's goal in life was to be a walking witness for Jesus Christ. Since 1977, George was a permanent fixture and devoted Sunday school teacher at Cornerstone Baptist Church (formerly Chantilly Baptist Church). He was a caring person who undoubtedly touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born in St. Augustine, FL to First Sergeant George A. and Lucile (Jaillette) Scoville, whom preceded him in death. In 1973, he married Elizabeth 'Jean' Wolf, and together they raised two children, David and Holly. George was completely dedicated to his family and every aspect of their lives, with the exception of school plays and piano recitals. They couldn't end quickly enough!

George was a graduate of Columbus State University. In his career as both a Software and Equipment Design Engineer, he worked at Pelton & Crane, Carolina Brace Orthotics & Prosthetics, and Equipment Design & Fabrication. George was especially passionate about his first company, Rotational Dynamics.

He is survived by his wife Jean of 43 years, son and daughter-in-law David and Mary Scoville of Southport, NC; daughter Holly Scoville Hayes of Durham, NC; sister Beverly (Floyd) Green; uncle John (Melanie) Scoville, nieces Shannon Smith and Sarah (Ed) Milone; many loving extended family members and his beloved dog, Graci.

George was best known for being a tremendously patient, intelligent and outright hilarious man. If he couldn't put a smile on your face then your name was probably on his prayer list.

All are invited to celebrate George's life and hear the conclusion of his last Sunday school lesson at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 8th at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. In lieu of flowers, please honor George by using your time and talents to help someone in need.
