Waverly Hall, GA- John"Doc" Russell Holliday, Sr. 70, Waverly Hall, GA. passed away at his residence March 23, 2012. Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, 2012, beginning at 1:00P.M. at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, With Reverend Eddie Terriel officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 P.M. At the funeral home 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
John Russell Holliday, Sr. was born November 24, 1941 in West Virginia, Son of the late Loris G. Holliday and Bessie Tilley Holliday. John was dedicated to his country and proudly served two tours in Vietnam with the United States Army. He retired after 23 years of service. John was a member of the VFW Post 665, where he was Past Vice Commander, The American Legion Post 35, and the Elks Club Pup 111. John Holliday was a Baptist by faith and attended Melody Lakes Baptist Church. John Holliday was an honorable man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who leaves behind wonderful memories for his family to cherish.
Other than his parents John is preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Chumley, Casandra "Pete" Bloomquist and Linda Farnsworth.
Survivors include his wife Emma Jean Holliday, of Waverly Hall, GA; daughter, Cheri Solomon and husband Steve of La Grange, TX; son, John R. Holliday, Jr and wife Stefanie, of Modesto, CA; and step-son, J.C. Crews, Jr. and wife Lauralee, of Opleika, AL; Sister Debbie Hise and husband Gordon, of Marietta, GA; brothers, Eugene Franklin Holliday and wife Jenny, of Roanoake, AL, Jerry Holliday and wife Pat, of Satellite Beach, FL; Grandchildren, Alyssa and Juli Anna Hudson, Ross and Randall Garner, Susan Crews Hiskey, Mary Crews, and Jamison, Kayleb, Dylan, Savannah Simmons; Great Grandchildren, Kyle Hiskey, Jr., Jaxson Garner, Jagger Garner and Chloe Shaver.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the John B. Amos Cancer Center
