Jim was a gentle giant and I best remember him from Benning Hills Elementary where he uncharacteristically got into trouble associating with the likes of me.  In 3rd grade early one morning, before the teacher arrived, about six of us, me, Wayne Achey, and several others started a chalk and eraser war by dividing up and getting on both ends of the classroom. Jim was good naturedly drafted by one side. The teacher eventually walked in, amid flying chalk and erasers.  We were all sent to the principal's office where L.B. Hickson, a wiry man whose strength was quite deceptive, paddled us with a yardstick, that is, until he splintered it across  Jim's bottom.  Those lined up after Jim, received a reprieve.  I feel sure Jim lived his life like he attended school--in quiet dignity.  Rest in peace, Jim.
