Lamar M. Pruitt, Sr. 88, of Columbus died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Robert Spear officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The following will serve as active pallbearers; Matthew Spear, Keith Pruitt, Ryan Pruitt, Benjamin Little, Roy Cross and Franklin Cheek. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clarence Little, Andy Jones and Zack Jones.

Mr. Pruitt was born March 24, 1929 in Monroe County, Georgia; son of the late John William and Helen Anthony Stewart Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a graduate of Baker High School and retired after 30 years as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, National Association of Letter Carriers and was involved in Cub Scouts, Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and Babe Ruth Baseball.

Other than his parents, Mr. Pruitt was predeceased by his grandson Lamar M. Pruitt III (Trey), brothers, John Pruitt and Charles Pruitt, sister, Johnnie Pruitt Forbes.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Janie Little Pruitt of Columbus, Ga., one daughter, Lana Spear (Robert) of Austin, TX., two sons, Lamar Pruitt, Jr. (Debra) of Columbus, Ga., Jeff Pruitt (Eva) of Midland, Ga., and sister, Martha Doyle (Rick) of Punta Gorda, Fl. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jennifer White (Erik), Keith Pruitt, Matthew Spear (Lilianna), Tara Fernandez (Justin) Ryan Pruitt (Ashlee), Karson Pruitt, and step grandchildren Brian Spear (Sandra), Dale Spear, Andy Jones, Katie Dorsa (Chris) and Zack Jones. Mr. Pruitt also had ten great grandchildren.

Special thanks to the men and women of Kindred Hospice. Their kindness, understanding and sympathy during this time far exceeded expectations.
