Alvin Lee Kennedy April 21, 1929 - May 10, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA — Alvin Lee "Buster" Kennedy, 81, passed away May 10, 2010 in Columbus, GA. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 12 at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, 31907 from 5:00-7:00PM. The funeral service will be held at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery on Thursday, May 13 at 1:00PM. Rev. Daryl Brown will officiate the ceremony. Born on April 21, 1929 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Alvin Velton and Margie Van Patten Kennedy. In his early years, Buster was an avid football player at Baker High School, Middle Georgia College and the United States Army. He later worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years, retiring in December of 1983. He thoroughly enjoyed playing softball with the Senior Softball League in Columbus for over 20 years. Buster was a true family man and genuinely lived for his loving family. He leaves his devoted wife and best friend of 56 years, Dorothy Barnes Kennedy; his son, Terry Lee "Butch" Kennedy and his wife, Carolyn Poovey Kennedy; his daughter, Toni Kennedy Morrison, and her husband, Mark Philip Morrison; his granddaughters, Alee Trippett and Baili Barnes Morrison; his brother, H. Eugene "Gene" Kennedy and his wife, Betty Lee Kennedy; his sister, Charlotte Kennedy Davis; and his late brother, Gerald Scott Kennedy; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
