Columbus, GA- Jere M. Richardson, 85, of Columbus, GA. died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Wynnton United Methodist Church with Dr. Frank Parr officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Rachel Richardson, Nathan Richardson, U.S. Air Force 2nd LT. Lucas Richardson, Paul Sheets, Andy Bickley and Paul Cash. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Goodwill Sunday School Class at Wynnton United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jere was born in Covington, GA. on March 29, 1927 to the late Bertram Richardson and Julia Minter Richardson. He has lived in Columbus since 1951 and was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church and retired from the Muscogee County School District. Jere served as the first Director of Columbus Technical College. He was a member of the Columbus Rotary Club, American Vocational Association, Columbus Woodworkers Guild and served as Past President of the Georgia Vocational Association. Jere was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. His wife Jeanette Jones Richardson preceded him in death.
Survivors include his three sons, Jere C. "Jay" Richardson and wife Catherine of Lake Jackson, TX, James M. Richardson of Athens, GA, and John W. Richardson of Marietta, GA, three grandchildren, U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Lucas Richardson, Rachel Richardson and Nathan Richardson, two sisters, Sylvia Richardson of Atlanta, GA, Evelyn Sheets of Thomaston, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
