Frank Paul Mezick

1925-2017

Frank Paul Mezick of Opelika, Alabama was born June 8, 1925, and passed on Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was 91 years old.

Paul was born in Fairfax, Alabama son of the late John D. Mezick and Mattie B. Mezick. He grew up in Pepperell, Alabama and graduated from Opelika High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country honorably during World War II. He served in Saltsburg, Austria during 1945 and 1946. He has been an active member of the American Legion Post 152 of Opelika, Alabama since 1950. Mr. Mezick graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) receiving his Bachelor's Degree. He then began a career as an educator in the Muscogee County School System, where he devoted more than 30 years of faithful service. Mr. Mezick started his teaching career in 1950 at the 45th Street Middle School. He taught at Baker High School from 1951 to 1981 where he served as Diversified Cooperative Training Administrator. Mr. Mezick was a member of Pepperell United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Wright Mezick; brother John W. Mezick; sisters, Myrtic Mezick Myres, Myrtle Mezick and Mary Everlwe Mezick; nieces Faye Ross, Mary Elizabeth Pratt, and nephew Joe Roberts.

He is survived by his niece, Brenda Blackmon (Tony).

Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard Bradfield.

Frederick-Dean Funeral Home is directing.

Visitation Information

Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.

Service Information

Memorial service will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard Bradfield.

Samuel Jeffry Jelks (1970)

So sorry to hear of mr mezzicks' passing. I met him approximately 2008 while ms Ruth was in the hospital. He informed me of the baker reunions and website.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Mezick.  He was my DCT teacher my senior year.  Mr. Mezick did enjoy the Baker Luncheons as well as other Baker events.  I was honored to dance with Mr. Mezick at the 2014 Baker Reunion.  Sending prayers and condolences to all.  Rest in peace.  See you again some day.

Martin A. "Marty" Chism (1969)

This gentleman is the reason I graduated. If not for his understanding of my pecular sitiuation I would have been one of those forced out of school and into the work force, I only wish he knew what it did for me and my future. Many thanks Paul Mezick, may God find that special place for men like you.
