Sadie Matilda Bohorfoush Davis August 13, 1917 - August 1, 2010 MOBILE, AL — Mrs. Sadie Matilda Bohorfoush Davis, died of natural causes on August 1, 2010, in Mobile, Alabama. Born on August 13, 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama, Sadie was the seventh of eight children born to George and Susan Joseph Bohorfoush, both natives of Lebanon. She grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Ramsey High School. She matriculated at Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn, but graduated from the University of Alabama. While at Alabama, she met Woodrow Alvin "Pig" Davis, who was the first football player ever recruited for the University of Alabama by Coach Paul Bryant. Sadie and Pig married on Thanksgiving Day in 1939 in Birmingham, where their first son, Timothy Alvin, was born in 1941. During WWII they were stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, where Pig served in the Navy and Sadie worked for the telephone company. In 1945 their second son, Robert Alvin, was born in Norfolk. After the war they moved to Guntersville, Alabama, where Pig took his first job as a high-school football coach. Their third son Stephen Alvin, was born in Guntersville. In 1947 the Davis family moved to Tifton, Georgia. Pig became the head football coach at Tifton High School, and Sadie devoted her life to her family. Their fourth son, William Alvin, their fifth son, Michael Rayner, and their only daughter, Cynthia Susan, were all born in Tifton. In 1960 the family moved to Columbus, Georgia and Pig became an assistant football coach at Baker High School. In 1966 Pig became head football coach at Columbus High School, where he stayed until his retirement in 1978. Sadie continued as a homemaker until all the boys had left for college, and then she returned to her career as a Registered Dietitian at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. In 1990 Sadie, Pig and their daughter Cindy moved to Mobile to be close to their sons Steve and Mike, who were practicing physicians here. Sadie was a devout Roman Catholic all of her life. In Columbus she and her family attended St. Anne's Catholic Church, and in Mobile she attended Our Savior as long as her health allowed. She tended Pig devotedly during his last years, until his death in 1997. She truly was a virtuous wife whose price was above rubies and a loving mother to her six children. She is survived by Tim (Deanna), Robert (Carol), Steve (Beverly), Bill (Harriet), Mike (Barbara), and Cindy, and by her grandchildren Lindsay Davis, Leigh (David) Perry, Dina (Jason) Grubbs, and Timothy (Whitney) Davis, Clay (Spain) Reese, Christopher Davis, and Colin (Michelle) Davis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Visitation for Sadie Davis will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street, from five o'clock to seven o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Monsignor G. Warren Wall at ten o'clock on Thursday morning, August 5, 2010 at Our Savior Catholic Church on Cody Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Volunteers of America. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum in Pine Crest Cemetery. I am truly saddened of hearing that Coach Alvin (Pig) Davis has passed away. Had him in my Junior year and was proud to assist him with grading his papers and run errands for him. He'd always say I owe you a R C Cola and a Moonpie with a big grin. Miss you Coach!!!
