Mrs. Cheatham had a huge impact on my life, and how I would later grow into an adult and view situations, and how to deal with people. She had a silent, but very expressive way of dealing with people, and I learned much from her example. (Unfortunately, I didn't get the silent part until I'd gotten some age on me!)

I worked every day with her at Eddy Jr. High my 8th grade year, along with Nancy Young. It was 6th period, 1971-1972. Obviously technology sucked comparatively, but we could run those mimeograph machines like clockwork, and deliver all those teacher's test papers on time. I think I actually miss the smell of those chemicals...

Mrs. C also taught me how to crochet. She was just a fun person to talk to, and even though we all grew up and moved on, I always smile when I think about that year with her. She made me feel valuable and special. I'm forever thankful to people like that, who can reach out and touch someone's life like that. (My father was KIA in Viet Nam 2 years earlier, and my family's life was in flux a little bit after that).

Thanks to everything Mrs. C.

I grew up knowing Mrs Cheatham (Dot). She and my parents were good friends, she would come to our house and visit with my mom and dad. We lived two streets away, but she would drive her VW to our house and park on the street, once the bug gave way she bought a Toyota Corolla. She always smoked! She worked as the playground director at James B Key, of course I was too young to go to the playground but my sister Andrea and brother Tommy got to go. Then she went to work at Eddie, when I got to Eddie I worked in the office with her. When Mr Goodrum went to Baker, she went with him. She had five kids, we had six kids. Both bunch of kids were sargents kids, Army brats. My dad's name was Tom, Mr Cheatham was Tom, he used to work at the 7-11 on the corner of Hendrix. Mrs Cheatham was like a second mom, if I needed anything she was there. I'll be forever grateful for knowing her.

Time has just flew by over the years and as a student from Eddy Jr High right over to BHS .....there are the fond and lingering memories of all those precious school years. Mrs. Cheatham will always be one of those special ladies to remember. She instilled within "lots" of students the meaning of self-worth as a young person and a teenager. And boy did she have her work cut out for her, with those boys and one girl in her family to raise. She did a darn good job of it ......cause she had all of us students to also deal with at the school office. I will always remember the good advice she would give to the students.....some would listen and apply her advice.....and others just listen. Nathan was two years ahead of me and Spencer was right there in the middle of the class of 1975. .....(Cool dude). I am sure her children made her proud...........cause she loved all her kids and us BHS students as well. I hope her kids help keep the BHS memories alive and stay connected with us all ....of BHS and attend some of the functions to keep the memories and love growing amoung us all and the BHS Lion Spirit alive.

God bless her whole family!

Mrs. Cheatham was a very nice, kind, wonderful, caring lady.  Not only was Mrs. Cheatham a former neighbor when we lived on Sharon Avenue in Oakland Park, she was the activity director for the James B. Key School for many years.  I could not wait to see what craft, art project or game we would be able to enjoy that day.  Summer fun is what I think of when I remember Mrs. Cheatham.  I will never forget when Mr. Cheatham was the store manager of the 7-11 Store.  We loved walking to the 7-11 for our candy treats and Slushee drinks.  Those were some great days and a great place to be!  Spencer Cheatham and I graduated together in 1975.  We all had a lot of fun together!  Marlene Carr Lantzer, BHS'75
