Althea "Peg" Carr Waters, 83, who was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Worcester, Mass., to Rupert and Mildred Rice, died June 27, 2010, in Raleigh, N.C. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, 195 Ridgewood Ave., Glen Ridge, N.J. 07028. Mrs. Waters was a longtime resident of Glen Ridge, having taught English at Glen Ridge High School from 1960 to 1985. She was affectionately known as "English Carr" and her first husband, who taught mathematics at the school during the same time, was known as "Algebra Carr." She was selected for a special course of study abroad in British literature one summer in Oxford, England. She was a member of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, the Essex County Country Club and the Glen Ridge Country Club. She was a member of the Eagle Rock-Cranetown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon, Mass., and received a bachelors' degree from Piedmont College, Demarest, Ga., and her master's degree from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jack and Norman, and her first husband, Westmoreland Carr. She is survived by her husband, James M. Waters of Glen Ridge, N.J., and by her son, Dr. Josiah Mark Carr II and his wife, Melinda, and her grandsons, Paul and Josiah III of Raleigh, N.C. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Rice. Her first husband, Westmoreland Carr, died in 1992. She married Mr. Waters in 2001. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
