Herman "Buddy" George Windisch, Jr. Obituary

Herman George Windisch, Jr., age 77, of Fayetteville, Georgia was known to family and friends as “Buddy.” Surrounded by family, he passed away March 2, 2024.

Buddy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 9, 1946. He joined the Navy Seabees at age 17. His active-duty service to his country allowed him to serve in the Vietnam War. After many years of National Guard Reserve duty, he became a retired veteran. When he met fellow veterans, he did not hesitate to thank them for their service as well as sharing some of his personal experiences as a Navy Seabee.

Buddy acquired a love of golf early in life and was known to play golf on many favored golf courses across the country. Panama City Beach was a frequently visited favorite spot where he and his family enjoyed the surf, crystal blue waters and white sands. He was known for his famously delicious “deviled eggs”. His family looked forward to gatherings and holidays where his deviled eggs were a guaranteed dish.

After completing training at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Buddy relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. He worked at Precision Avionics, Inc. for many years as an instrument technician. He took his work seriously and mentored several who were beginning their careers as technicians.

Buddy is survived by his wife of fifty years, Angela, sons; Nicholas and Jordan; daughters- in- laws, Melissa and Veronica; grandchildren Abigail, Lydia and Benjamin; sisters, Teresa Marlow and Sue Gibbs; along with nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on March 23, 2024, at Henry Baptist Church, 4035 Jodeco Road, McDonough, Georgia 30253.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation 844-272-8378. Please make notation “Vietnam Veterans” on the contribution.

We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall.

I remember Buddy when we lived down the street from his family on Harris Circle at Fort Benning.  We were in Boy Scouts together and several of us played pick-up baseball and football together.  I don't think I had seen him since about 1961 but I will never forget that smile.  Our condolences to his family.
