I met Barry while he and I bagged groceries at the commissary at Ft. Benning. Barry was a big dude and I was glad he was my friend. We had alot of fun at Baker going to the sock-hops and staying out to all hours of the night doing things we had no business doing and his parents would drag us out of bed to go back to the commissary the next morning(bad head and all). The Tolberts were good people and treated me like one of their kids(almost). I am glad I knew all of them. I miss my pal. I know he made a good policeman over in Montgomery.
Barry and his family lived on the same street on base at Benning...I had a crush on him...but he didn't notice...I did get to talk with him at the 90 and 95 reunion along with his pack of friends... I reminded him of the crush....he said he couldn't remember me...lol
I knew Barry as a Police Officer with the Montgomery Police Department. I could not believe someone I went to school with was a Policeman here in Montgomery. I worked in The Mayor’s office then and brought my Baker annual to work so he could see it. So many of my retired friends from the police department have such fond memories of him. He was very well liked by those he worked with. He was taken too young.
