School Story:
Memories of Baker High? Are you kidding? I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday (LOL)
I do remember that I played in the Band - clarinet.
Something else that comes to me was that Vera Gordon and I were competing for the 10th grade Valentine's Court spot and I was supposed to be escorted by this baseball player (Wayne B????). My father would not allow me to date and Wayne had to come out to the house and meet my parents? (Wayne, do you remember that?) I don't remember that dance at all, other than I wasn't on the Court?
I do remember I tried out for the Junior Varsity Cheerleading team, but because I had a "D" in Math, the Gym teacher chose someone else.
Funny the things you can remember, like stuffing my bra with tissue because I was "flat chested" and being told by a friend's (Barbara) brother (Jimmy Lau) that if Barbara and I let a guy touch our boobs, we could get pregnant!!! I bet Jimmy doesn't remember that from Fort Benning.
Ken Holland was the first boy I kissed at Baker High. He was in my German class. Again, not being allowed to date, my girlfriend and next door neighbor in Fort Benning (Gayle Foster) and her parents used to cover for me when Ken and I had a date. I would tell my parents that Gayle and I were going to the drive in and then meet Ken there. I wonder whatever happened to Gayle and that soldier (Sonny) I caught her with one summer afternoon when we were 16!! Hmmmm If anyone knows where Gayle is, please let me know.
And one of my best memories is of the man that stole my young heart - Soldier Boy - Robert "Curtis" Cason. My Dad brought him to Sunday supper and warned Curtis that he could "look, but not touch" his daughters (my sister Betty is a year younger than me).
Then there was the Summer trip to Tennesee with Cherry "Diane" Lane and her family. Her cousin "Peaches" tried to set me up with this blind date. Do you remember that Diane?
Now here's another memory (they just keep a-comin). This was the time Corky Owens called my house and made me promise to not tell anyone at school that he called me? I was so naive back in the day!!! We had a journalism (??) class together and he never even acted like he knew my name, so when he called, I felt it was a 'prank' call. How he got my number, I'll never know and why he called is still a mystery, if that was even him!
There were a couple of sock hops I can remember. I loved to dance and was pretty good at it so never lacked for partners.
Some names that come to mind are Gayle Foster, Harold Lane, Jerry High, Guy Martinez, Charles 'Alan' Morehead, Sandy, Roxie Gordy. Roxie was younger than me and lived on our street in Fort Benning. Also the name "Posey" (can't remember the first name-Charles maybe) but he was good at playing the piano.
If anyone can refresh my memory, I sure would love to hear from you.
