Mary Ann Screws (Lynch) (1953)

Lucy was a year ahead of me in school and I didn't know her as a real close friend, but she was president of The Student Council for several years when I served in it. She was a really smart girl and served her role well. I liked her very much. She worked as a buyer at Davision's in downtown Atlanta during the time I worked in Atlanta and I saw her several during that period. I think she was working there when she passed away.

I knew Lucy better than most. We worked on a number of school projects together, and even lived close to each other. Frequently, we'd walk up Benning Drive to school together.

Lucy attended our reunion in 1987, but she was quite ill. She was very open about the fact that she knew she hadn't long to live, and many of us chatted privately with her about old times and memories. I had a particularly good session with her.

She lived in Atlanta. I lived then in Jackson, Mississippi, but got to Atlanta infrequently (BellSouth, who employed me, was headquartered there). I promised to get together with her sometime soon, but didn't make it before I heard she had died. One of my chief regrets is that I didn't have more time with her.

Lucy was extremely intelligent, and a good leader. She was also a good friend who could always be counted on.

I miss her still.
