Dear Family & Friends,

It is with a broken heart that I inform you that my beautiful LA passed away yesterday. She had been sent home from the hospital under hospice care. I had been taking care of her here at home, since Christmas Eve, Margo her nurse would come once a week or if we need an extra visit hospice would send someone. We had some good days and were working towards getting stronger and trying to gain weight. But she was getting tired still having trouble swallowing and was losing the weight. We took her to the oncologist on Friday for blood work and he found that her calcium levels were high and she needed a blood transfusion. That was to be scheduled for this Monday, over the next couple of days her health declined and I had her taken to Hospice by the Sea Saturday night where the blood transfusion was going to take place. They started the fluids to lower the calcium levels and gave her the blood transfusion. The doctor spoke with me on Monday and mentioned her condition would not allow for further chemo. At that time he mentioned I should let family members know her time was near. I visited with her and had hired a CNA to stay with her throughout the evening. Our plans had been to bring her home and have a nurse 24 hrs with us. As I prepare the home for Lauri's arrival, I thought to call her and remind her how much I loved her and I would see her shortly. I had the CNA hold the phone to her ear and though she was not able to speak I told her. The night before leaving I requested a Catholic priest visit with her which he did Tues. morning. I guess everything needed to happen had. I understand after I spoke with Lauri she fell asleep peacefully and went home. I had asked the Lord not to let her suffer anymore, and thank him for giving her to me for 33 yrs. My heart is broken but I know she is in a better place.

She will be cremated and will buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The date will be determined later. I will keep her ashes with me until closer time of service at which time the funeral home will send them to Arlington. I will post future information as I receive it.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted to the facility that took such loving care of her in her final hours, Hospice by the SeaFoundation.  If mailing a check 5300 East Ave West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or online at www.hpbcf.org or can be called in at 561-494-6887.

Also, please consider this wonderful site, caring bridge I wouldn't have been able to do it without them.

God Bless you all and Thank you for all of your love, support and prayers. Lauri loved reading them.

Sonia

I am so sorry for your loss Sonia. Lauri and I were lifeguards at the Teen Club pool on Ft. Benning 68-69. We all had a great time teaching and managing the operation that summer. You will be missed "Puff".

I am so sorry for your loss.  I remember Puff well from high school.   I had no idea she was sick.  Praying for comfort for you and family.

I was so incredibly saddened to hear of Lauri's passing. Lauri, Shirley Collier and I were best buds and did everything together in high school. So many great and fun memories. She was always so positive and happy and always had to have 'extra cheese' on her pizza. She will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Always a sad moment when the cycle of life brings us to this inevitable point, and I hope you can take heart in reflecting on the times you had with her.   I do remember Lauri albeit it only vaguely at this stage, and glad that you had the opportunity to share so much of your life with her.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just went through Pancreatic cancer with my sweet husband. It is extremely painful. But I am very thankful for the time we had to say goodbye. We left nothing unsaid, and that has been a special peace for me.

Lauri and I were with each other a lot.  I think that whole gang really bonded through the years.  My heart just breaks for her family

What a classy woman Lauri was.  My wife Teresa and I enjoyed spending time with Lauri at the All class reunion that was held in 2004 at the Naval Museum. So sorry for the loss of such wonderful person.  RIP my friend.
