Biography:

CYNTHIA E DAUGHERTY
Cynthia Daugherty passed away at the Hospice of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta early in the morning of March 1 2014, at the age of 64, after fighting a brave battle with cancer. Cindy is predeceased by her father Norman Eggleston, sister Melanie Chatta, brothers-in-law John Griffin and Butch Thompson, and her niece Bethany Eggleston. She is survived by Steven Daugherty, her loving husband of 40 years. They were married in Richmond, Virginia. Cindy is lovingly remembered by her son Bill Daugherty of Carrollton, Georgia, her granddaughters Lorelei and Annabelle Daugherty, her mother Virginia Gillenwater of Birmingham, Alabama, her sister Susan Griffin of Ruston, Louisiana, and her brothers Chuck Eggleston of Granite Falls, Washington, and Eddie Eggleston of Birmingham, Alabama. Cindy was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, and she earned a bachelors and master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She was a retired teacher, having taught kindergarten in Chesterfield County, Virginia, Head Start in Mayfield, Kentucky, and French at Oak Mountain Academy and Central High School in Carrollton, Georgia. She organized an exchange program between Central High School and Lycée Jules Ferry in Saint-Dies-des-Vosges, France. This program ran for 14 consecutive years, allowing hundreds of teenagers to visit other countries, including a French girl named Amelie who would one day become her daughter-in-law. Cindy loved gardening, reading, traveling abroad, watching old movies, and listening to bluegrass music. It was Cindy’s wish that her cremated remains be scattered on her favorite flowerbeds.
A Memorial will be held in the Chapel at Martin-Hightower Funeral Home, 1312 Park St., Carrollton, Georgia, from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday March 8. All family, friends, teachers, students, bluegrass pickers, and school staff are invited. Dress is informal.

As the old bluegrass song says, "Give me flowers while I live..." The family would prefer that anyone wishing to send flowers make a contribution instead to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation www.themmrf.org/ or to the Vistacare Hospice at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta
