10. Harry Holmes '70:

God bless BHS. A fitting death for a tuff old girl. Rejoice in her life and rejoice even more in her death. She passed the way she lived with dignity and courage. Her children will never forget her and her memory will never fade. She was brick and mortar but WE are Baker High School and we are Lions but more important than that is that We are Family and always will be. Love each other and Love the memories cause that is what unites us. Later

11. Mark Gunn:
Very well put Harry. I still can't help shedding a tear in seeing one of the most important symbols of my childhood gone.

Is there any way of finding out if the students will be able to get the bricks from the building ? That way we'd have a piece of her always.

12. Linda Lucas Stratford '70:

PAIGE RECEIVED A CALL FROM A FRIEND IN COLUMBUS AND SHE JUST CALLED ME ABOUT THE SCHOOL BURNING.  I'M SPEECHLESS AND SO GLAD I'M NOT WATCHING IT BURN.  I KNOW SHE'S GOING OUT IN A BLAZE OF GLORY.

PLEASE LOCALS KEEP US INFORMED.

13. Harry Holmes '70: Just got news from Chelsea that she and Henry and several others are arriving at the school at this very moment and that most of the fire trucks are leaving and just letting the place burn because there is nothing that they can do. Plaster and wood and God knows how many coats of paint and varnish and every other burnable thing is in that old place. Thank the Lord that no one, at least I hope, was hurt in this fire but please, please, please, you local Lions get over there and get us outta towners some bricks or something we can keep and raise money for the Alumni fund. Love Me.

14. Pam Powell Williams:

Baker's last roar, isn't it?

Just off the phone with my mom in Benning Hills.  She can only see the blue lights and the wind must be blowing in the other direction because she doesn't smell any smoke.

It was just on Fox 54 she said and will be on Channel 9 at 11.

I kinda think this roar of a fire is more befitting our beloved school than the slow picking apart the bones.

15. Susan Graves '73:

Beer Beer for old Baker High

Bring out the cocktails- bring out the rye

Send those freshman out for gin and

Don't let a sober Lion in!!

We never stagger, we never fall

We sober up on wood alcohol

When we die we'll burn in fire

For the glory of Baker High!!

16. Gwennette Johnson Garner:
Just heard Baker High School is a blaze! 10:20 p.m. May 19, 2010. Hope the Columbus firemen can save whats left of our dear Baker High School.

17. Carolyn Hall Tidd '70:  My old friend Lisa Powell Pruitt said it right..I would rather have the old girl go out in a blaze of glory than bulldozed into the ground.  One last bonfire!  Our memories are safe in a hearts and minds.  Lions Forever!

18.  Cynthia Fucci Johns '65: It is true, Baker is a blaze of fire--just got back from there.  lots of Baker Lions there.  Pictures will be up soon, I am sure. And there is a big bonfire there right now.  Sad

19. Peter Sharp: I just saw the news and our beloved Baker High School is on fire as I am posting this message, it seems to be in the auditorium area from the live video from channel 9 news.

20. Debbie Carr Keith:

Sad that Baker is going, but it seems appropriate for it to go out in a blaze of glory rather than with a whimper by bulldozer.  That is more in line with the spirit of Baker that I remember.  I was there when it was on fire the last time and sad to not be this last time.  Good-bye to a dear friend!  I hope that anyone with pictures will post them for those of us far away.

21. Sylvia Head '79:
 Pass this along...

22.  Rosalyn Yolanda McGuire Partridge: Just saw the school I love on Fire it broke my heart

23.
Dianne Biglane Griffin '70:  Just got home from watching Baker go up in a blaze of glory. It's  the freshman wing that is getting most of the damage.  Guess she didn't want to go out with a wrecking ball so now one last time our beloved school made the new, 10:00 and 11:00 news

24. Barbara Fisher McPeters:  Just got home, couldnt believe what I had heard on the Ch. 9 News update. The whole 2nd floor of the freshman wing was ablaze when I got to the O'Riley's across Victory drive. First floor, where the Home Ec. rooms was starting to flare up. Lord knows the memories those halls have for me!

25.  Chelzie Manuel Colson '72: I posted my pictures of Baker burning on my profile.

26. Roy "Sunshine" Cook '68: Saw many of our BHS classmates at the fire.  John Crimmel- thanks for giving me a call.  Diane, Reggie, Roger, Chelzie, and or course John, good seeing yall, but hated it was under these circumstances.  According to a fireman, the freshman wing would fall tonite.

27. Rick Burns:  But, if a building has to go, what better way than rapid oxidation. Maybe it will follow the way of the phoenix. -- Rick Burns

28. Rick Popple '71: going out in a blaze of glory..." Bon Jovi" -- Rick Popple

29. Wendy Guenter Mock '71:   Went by Baker yesterday afternoon around 3:30---wrecking equipment was already on site and they had begun tearing down the walls---bricks going everywhere---sad to see.
